The Training Course is sponsored by the University of Bologna and shall be run in close collaboration with the universities of Zagreb (branch of Split) and of Tirana. Other Italian institutions are involved, such as: University of Ancona, University of Urbino, University of Lecce, Central Cataloguing and Documentation Institute – Cultural Heritage Ministry, European Centre of San Servolo – Venice. The Course is intended to establish and strengthen an enhancement process of the land and of the historical memory of the cultures involved through a comparison between the various experiences and by means of the precious information technology opportunities provided by the multimedia network. These exchanges as well as the critical understanding and review of the various issues at stake are accelerated thanks to these technological means, thus making the training process especially fit for providing learners with the necessary professional skills to fully and timely meet the requirements related to the restoration work and to lay down the foundations for the development of a highly qualified and competence work force, which will prove attractive also for the European market.
The Course results from a series of suggestions all underlying the need to promote the exchange of skills and experiences between the Universities of Bologna, Split and Tirana. As a matter of fact, during the Ravenna meeting (December 16th 2000) a few main requirements were pointed out concerning the education of restoration professionals by the universities of Split and Tirana, experience very similar to that acquired by the University of Bologna through the Walls of Malta restoration project. In the case of the Universities above mentioned, the need has been stressed to provide students and graduates with the opportunity to be involved in specific restoration and rehabilitation projects in the cities of Split, in Croatia, and of Gjirokastër in Albania.
The Course intends to train as many as 12 management technicians in charge of cultural and architectural heritage rehabilitation tasks.
