UniAdrion at the 11th EUSAIR Forum: Empowering Youth, Strengthening Governance and Enhancing Regional Cooperation

Skopje, 20–21 May – UniAdrion played a prominent role in the framework of the 11th EUSAIR Forum, bringing together representatives of universities, youth organizations, and institutional stakeholders for two days of dialogue, strategic planning, and international cooperation across the Adriatic-Ionian Region.

Young Voices Matter: UniAdrion Panel at the EUSAIR Forum

On 20 May, UniAdrion organized the panel discussion “Young Voices Matter: Civic Engagement as a Driver for the Adriatic–Ionian Future”, highlighting the crucial role of young people in shaping a more inclusive, democratic, and sustainable Adriatic-Ionian Region.

The session brought together university representatives from the UniAdrion network alongside members of youth and student organizations active across the region. Participants discussed current challenges and opportunities related to youth participation in academic, civic, and public life, while sharing experiences and best practices that foster active citizenship and democratic engagement.

Particular attention was given to successful initiatives such as ESN AIR, which have contributed to strengthening youth participation, mobility, and civic awareness. The discussion underscored the importance of building stronger connections between institutions and young people, ensuring that youth perspectives are effectively integrated into the future development of the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region.

UniAdrion Italy Consortium Study Visit

Following the panel, participants joined the Study Visit organized by the UniAdrion Italy Consortium at the Faculty of Security (FBS) of the University “St. Kliment Ohridski” – Bitola (UKLO), located in Skopje.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity to deepen academic and institutional cooperation. Participants were welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty and introduced to the institution’s educational programs, research activities, and ongoing international projects.

The programme continued with a guided tour of the Faculty’s campus and facilities, offering insights into its teaching and research infrastructure. A highlight of the visit was the tour of the Forensic Museum, which showcased the Faculty’s expertise in security studies and forensic sciences.

The Study Visit concluded with a networking dinner, creating valuable opportunities for exchange among academics, researchers, and institutional representatives from across the Adriatic-Ionian Region.

UniAdrion Governing Board and General Assembly

On 21 May, UniAdrion members gathered at the Club of Members of Parliament in Skopje for the Association’s key governance meetings.

The UniAdrion Governing Board Meeting brought together the representatives of member universities to discuss strategic priorities, ongoing initiatives, and future opportunities for strengthening the network’s role within the Adriatic-Ionian cooperation framework.

Later in the day, the UniAdrion General Assembly convened all members of the Association for a broad discussion on future activities, inter-university cooperation, and the contribution of higher education institutions to the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region (EUSAIR).

The meetings reaffirmed UniAdrion’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, knowledge sharing, and cross-border cooperation as fundamental pillars for sustainable development and European integration in the region.

Advancing the Adriatic-Ionian Vision

The activities carried out during the 11th EUSAIR Forum—including the youth-focused panel, the meetings of UniAdrion’s governing bodies, and the Study Visit organized by the UniAdrion Italy Consortium—demonstrated the Association’s continuing commitment to fostering dialogue, innovation, and collaboration across the Adriatic-Ionian Region.

By empowering young people, strengthening institutional cooperation, and supporting research and education networks, UniAdrion continues to play a key role in advancing the shared vision of a more connected, resilient, and sustainable Adriatic-Ionian community.
