UniAdrion at the 9th EUSAIR Forum in Šibenik: An Experience of Collaboration and Innovation

UniAdrion’s Governing Board and General Assembly

On May 14th, the first of the four days spent in Croatia by UniAdrion, significant moments of discussion and strategic decisions for the future of the association took place.

The day began with the meeting of the Governing Board, followed by the General Assembly of the association, attended by delegates from nearly 20 member universities. During the discussions, the need for a more continuous dialogue among the institutions emerged to promote closer and more fruitful collaboration.

A crucial moment of the day was the election of the new presidency for the year 2025-2026, which will see the transition from Greece to North Macedonia, with the University of St. Kliment Ohridski. Additionally, the University of Applied Sciences of Ivanić-Grad was welcomed as a new adherent of the association, marking an important step in the expansion and inclusion of new academic entities within UniAdrion.

Signing of the Mediterranean Diet Declaration

On the same day, another significant event took place: the signing of the Mediterranean Diet Declaration at the Chamber of Commerce in Split.

This important document was signed by two prominent figures within UniAdrion: the association’s Vice President Jenny Pagge from the University of Ioannina, and the Vice Rector of the University of Split, Zoran Đogaš. Additionally, the President of the Forum of the Chamber of Commerce of the Marche Region and the President of the Chamber of Commerce of the City of Split also signed the declaration.

The signing of the declaration represents a significant step towards promoting and enhancing the Mediterranean diet, a cultural and gastronomic heritage shared by the countries of the Adriatic region.

UniAdrion at the 9th EUSAIR Forum in Šibenik: An Experience of Collaboration and Innovation

From May 14th to 16th, the beautiful city of Šibenik hosted the 9th Forum of the European Union Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR). This important event brought together representatives from governments, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, and businesses to discuss and develop common strategies for the future of the region.

The UniAdrion delegation, composed of representatives from various member universities, actively participated in the forum’s diverse sessions. UniAdrion had a dedicated space during the forum to present a panel on Students’ Civic Engagement in the Balkan areas. The session was moderated by Dr. Silvia Mangialardo, Head of International Relations Offices at the Università Politecnica delle Marche. The speakers included:
UniAdrion’s Vice President, Jenny Pagge, from the University of Ioannina, who spoke about what Civic Engagement means and how students practice it at her university.
Milan Stojanovic, who shared his experience within the Western Balkan Alumni Association.
Ava Ghasemi, who provided testimonies on what ESN Italy can do to engage students in civic engagement actions. (You can find the full recording of our panel on Students’ Civic Engagement here)

Additionally, during the days of the Forum, the UniAdrion delegation had the opportunity to meet with the future Greek presidency of the EUSAIR strategy. The key points of the discussion with the Senior Official focused on the importance of establishing a more frequent and continuous direct connection through meetings, events, and other initiatives. This meeting was a crucial moment for UniAdrion, highlighting the attention and space dedicated to the association within the EUSAIR macro-regional strategy. The opportunity to strengthen ties with the future Greek presidency not only consolidates UniAdrion’s role within the Adriatic-Ionian region but also opens new prospects for collaboration and development for the member universities.

UniAdrion’s presence at the 9th EUSAIR Forum was a significant success, once again demonstrating the central role that the association plays in promoting academic cooperation and research in the Adriatic and Ionian region. The new connections established and ideas exchanged during the forum represent a step forward towards a more sustainable and integrated future for all members of our network.
We are excited about the opportunities ahead and will continue to work diligently to achieve our common goals. Special thanks to all who participated and contributed to the success of the forum.
